Different lights mean different urgencies. Red = stop now. Yellow = diagnose soon. Green = informational. Knowing which light is on saves panic — and money.
In our network we see these in roughly this order. Diagnostic comes first — never authorise a repair without a written diagnostic report.
STOP IMMEDIATELY. Engine seizure within minutes. Towing required.
Alternator not charging. Drive home if close (battery alone gives ~30 min). Tow otherwise.
OBD-II scan within days. Most causes: O2 sensor, plugs, EVAP system.
Wheel-speed sensor or ABS module. Drive carefully — normal brakes still work, but ABS won't.
Red = STOP. Pull over within 1 minute. Yellow = caution, diagnose within days. Green = informational only.
Mechanically fine, but airbag may not deploy. Get diagnosed within a week.
Modern cars: it stays on. Take a photo, search owner's manual. Or use Autodots vehicle passport — owners log warning lights with photos for diagnosis context.
