EVs cost more upfront but less to run. See how the math works out over 1–10 years for your driving pattern.
Cheaper over 5 years
⛽ Petrol wins
By about $2,208 over 70,000 km
Resale assumes EV depreciates faster than petrol (battery & tech). Service estimate is conservative — EVs need ~35% of petrol service costs.
Purchase price, fuel/electricity, scheduled service costs, and a realistic resale value at the end of your ownership period.
Insurance differences, road tax, government incentives, charger installation costs, or unscheduled repairs. EV battery replacement is rare in 5 years.
Higher annual driving (15,000+ km/yr), cheap home charging electricity, and government EV subsidies tip the balance heavily toward EV.
Whether you upgrade or stick with petrol, regular service protects resale value.
