A car that won't start has 4 possible failure points: battery, starter, fuel system, or ignition. The pattern of failure tells us which.
In our network we see these in roughly this order. Diagnostic comes first — never authorise a repair without a written diagnostic report.
Most common cause (60%+ of no-start calls). Symptoms: nothing happens, or weak click. A 5-year-old battery is well past expiry — replace, don't recharge.
Single loud click but no cranking. Common at 80,000+ km. Replacement: ₹3,500-12,000 depending on car.
Cranks fine but won't fire. Listen for fuel-pump prime (faint whirr from the tank when key turns to ON).
Cranks but won't fire — security light flashing. Try the spare key. If neither works, it's the immobiliser ECU.
Battery weak: dim dashboard lights, slow cranking. Starter failed: full-strength dash + single loud click + no crank. Battery dead: nothing at all.
Modern petrol cars: yes. Modern diesels: yes but need long charge first. EVs: NEVER attempt to jump-start the HV battery — only the 12V auxiliary, and only with manufacturer instructions.
Drive 30+ minutes at highway speed to recharge the battery. If the car won't restart after stopping, the battery is failed — don't risk being stranded.
