Coolant loss leads to overheating, and overheating destroys engines. The visible leak point is the symptom — the cause might be a hose, water pump, or head gasket.
In our network we see these in roughly this order. Diagnostic comes first — never authorise a repair without a written diagnostic report.
Most common, easy to spot — green/orange liquid pooling. Replacement: ₹500-2,500 per hose, 30-min job.
Slow seep from the cooling fins. Often caused by stones from the road. Can be soldered for small leaks; replacement (₹4,500-15,000) for major.
Drip from the front of the engine, near the timing-belt cover. Replacement: ₹3,500-9,500. Usually replaced with timing belt.
Coolant in oil (milky) or white smoke from exhaust. Engine teardown required: ₹35,000-1,50,000.
Most modern coolants are green (ethylene glycol), orange (Dex-Cool), pink (Asian OEM), or blue (some Mercedes/VW). NEVER mix colors — it causes gel formation and pump damage.
Briefly, with caution. Top up with proper coolant. If you have to top up frequently, you have a real leak — stop driving until diagnosed.
Hose: ₹800-3,500. Water pump: ₹4,500-12,000. Radiator: ₹6,500-18,000. Head gasket: ₹40,000-1,80,000.
