A clutch is a 6-8 hour job — getting it right matters. Verified workshops use genuine kits (Sachs, LuK, Valeo), replace the bearings while they're in there, and stand by the work.
Plate, cover, release (throw-out) bearing, pilot bearing — replace all four together. Only doing the plate is a recipe for redoing the job in 6 months.
Sachs, LuK, Valeo, Aisin — only OE-quality kits. Avoid 'eco' or unbranded clutches that fail in 30,000 km.
If the flywheel is grooved or warped, surface or replace. Reusing a bad flywheel kills the new clutch.
Master and slave cylinder seals fail with age. While the gearbox is out, this is the time to inspect and replace if needed.
Slipping (engine RPM rises but car doesn't accelerate), juddering, high biting point, hard pedal feel, burning smell after a hill climb. Any of these means clutch service soon.
